A Bit More About Me...

I am from Boise Idaho, born and raised. I have been married to the man of my
dreams since April 1999. I gave birth to my first daughter when I was 19 in 1993, I
was a single mom until getting married. I went to school to be a medical assistant in
1996 and worked for a pediatrician until getting married. We quickly got pregnant
and had our second daughter in June 2000, a third daughter in May 2002 and a
fourth daughter in June 2004. I loved being pregnant, until the end when I was so
excited to meet them, I thought I would be pregnant forever. When I got pregnant
with my second, my mom in law said, "You know your body was meant to give birth
naturally"… and I just believed her. She had five natural births, didn’t have anything
negative or scary to say, only that it was normal. I didn’t do anything to prep for birth,
there was no internet influence, just one women saying it was good and normal, and
I believed her. I had my last three girls naturally without any fear of birth. And it was
good. In 2005 our family sold everything and went on the mission field to the
Philippines. It was short lived, we planned on forever, but as it goes, following Jesus
is hardly ever a linear path. We came back home to Idaho, after six months. In 2006
we became licensed foster parents, over the years we welcomed many children
into our home (2006-2024) advocating for and mentoring parents and their
children.

I loved being a stay at home mom and foster mom. In 2010, when my youngest at
the time started first grade, I was approached by some lovely people who knew me
well, to become a midwife. I stared midwifery school and became a student midwife
in August of 2010. By the end of May of 2012 I finished my schooling and clinicals and attended over 100 births in that time. I was set to take the NARM (National association of registered midwives) in August of that year. I passed, earning my CPM (certified professional midwife) credential. I then started my own homebirth practice in Boise. We continued being foster parents during that time and added a son to our family in November 2012 and another son in February of 2014. Feeling a call to adventure again, we prayed and moved our family to the city of Detroit, Michigan in October 2016. By 2018, I was missing midwifery, became a licensed midwife in Michigan and began working at a birth center. We added another son to our family in August 2018. In 2021 I started my own homebirth practice in Detroit. In 2025 we moved to Richmond, Virginia where my oldest and her family had moved a year earlier. In 2023 my daughter, Lucy started attending births with me as my assistant. In the fall of 2026 Lucy began Mercy in Action college of Midwifery to become a midwife. And now she is a student midwife! You will meet her at prenatals, she is wise and intuitive beyond her years. She is going to be an awesome midwife.

My family is my greatest joy. Having children is a blessing. There is nothing better then gathering all your children and grandchildren around the dinner table, and enjoying their presence.

Keeping updated on midwifery education I am:

  • NRP certified (renew every 2 years)

  • Advanced CPR certified (renew every 2 years)

  • Have trained with breech without boarders

  • Breech and twins training safely at home

  • I do continued education throughout the year on all topics for midwifery care and home birth

Evidence based care and informed consent are two things you’ll hear about often in midwifery circles, what are they?

  • Evidenced Based Care: Combines the latest research on a subject, practical skills and experience of a midwife (or anyone in the medical field) and the values, preferences and expectations a client has in making decisions.

  • Informed Consent: In its most formal form, it is a legal requirement for medical treatment. It should go over all risks and benefits of anything pertaining to you and your baby. In my experience, most midwives have always practiced this way.

I believe every family has the right to know and decide for themselves what is best for their family. Whether that’s all the things recommended or none. I support whatever you choose. ❤️

I support a few midwives and organizations who are working in low resource countries providing mama and baby care. A portion of my fee goes to help moms and babies survive the first five year of life, when survival is most vulnerable.

Bluebird Homebirth ❤️

I like names, I think they are important.

The first time I ever saw a bluebird was at our new home here in Richmond. I immediately loved the fluffy blue bird. When I looked up the meaning of the bluebird the words joy and hope were what it represents. I believe the world can use a little more of both. Joy and Hope.

This is what I believe pregnancy and birth should be about, the joy of growing a new life and hope that the future will be better because of it.

Matthew 6:26 - Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than that?

The world could use a little more rest in the truth that our Heavenly Father sees us and knows how to take care of us. Pregnancy is a great time to take a break from all the noise of the internet and information and practice resting and meditating on truth. Everyone’s an expert on birth these days and all the extra things you need to make sure it goes “just right”. If we can step back and think of our grandmothers and great grandmothers and the simplicity of pregnancy being a normal part of life, they had none of the resources or information we have, and yet here we are. I fully recognize the world has changed, but birth and pregnancy have not, there’s still some mystery left! Science has not been able to figure it all out!

Conceiving and growing a baby is still the wonderful process it has always been. Over information and fear just cause worry and anxiety. Instead let’s focus on the truth that you were designed to create life and have been given all you need. Sometimes you just need a hand to hold and gentle encouragement, you got this!

I am also very aware that sometimes things don’t go as planned. I don’t shy away from difficult situations, sometimes things are hard.

Pregnancy can be miserable, morning sickness, aches, pains, the list can go on. A deviation from normal that changes your whole birth plan. Postpartum depression that doesn’t seem to end. I’m here for this part too ❤️.
